The Story of Aubreigh Wyatt - Ocean Springs, Mississippi

On September 4, 2023, 13-year-old Aubreigh Wyatt was found dead by suicide in her bedroom in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.

The Story of Aubreigh Wyatt

A vibrant eighth-grader, Aubreigh was known for her love of gymnastics, four-wheeling, and making TikToks. Despite her bubbly personality and close-knit group of friends, she faced relentless bullying both in person and online, primarily from a small group of peers.

Her mother, Heather Wyatt, a teacher and devoted parent, had sought help for her daughter, placing her on a waitlist for therapy. Tragically, the support came too late.

In the aftermath, Heather turned to social media to share Aubreigh’s story, aiming to raise awareness about the devastating effects of bullying.

Her posts garnered widespread attention, leading to both support and controversy. While Heather never publicly named the individuals she believed were responsible, some families filed a defamation lawsuit against her, claiming their daughters were falsely accused. The lawsuit was eventually dropped, and Heather’s social media ban was lifted, allowing her to continue her advocacy.

Aubreigh’s story is not an isolated incident.

It underscores the urgent need for communities to address bullying proactively and to provide adequate mental health support for young people.
