Selling Your Soul for a Follow: How Online Bullying Will Destroy Your Stability

The Rise of Clout Chasing and Online Bullying

We live in a society where people betray their own morals and values for a double tap on a screen. Social media has created a culture where humiliation is entertainment, and bullying is disguised as content. But here’s the truth: online bullying doesn’t just hurt your target, it destroys your own stability.

In today’s economy, unemployment is rising and companies are cutting back. Yet people still risk their careers and reputations just to go viral. That’s not empowerment, it’s desperation.

A Lesson from History

I was fortunate to have a father from an older generation. He was a World War II veteran who lived through the Great Depression. He remembered sitting in his living room as Pearl Harbor was announced on the radio. On September 11th, he woke me up early so I could watch history unfold, because he knew the importance of those moments.

In times of crisis, his generation understood that people come together. But today? In a post-COVID world, social media has desensitized us. Instead of unity, we see division, bullying, and betrayal… all being done for likes, views, and followers.

The Consequences of Online Bullying

When you bully online, you’re not just humiliating someone, you’re leaving a permanent mark on yourself.

  • Digital Reputation: Employers check your online presence. A history of bullying and toxicity can cost you opportunities.
  • Career Risk: In a crashing economy, no company wants the liability of an employee whose digital footprint is toxic.
  • Isolation: When your presence is built on negativity, even your followers will eventually move on.

The government isn’t handing out financial safety nets like before. Stability will come from discipline, not humiliation.

Faith and Self-Control

“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”

2 Timothy 1:7

True power doesn’t come from tearing others down, it comes from self-control, from living with dignity, and from choosing to rise above the noise.

Echoing the Truth

At The Echo Movement, we believe dignity is worth more than a follow. Online bullying is just another cycle of abuse that we must break, whether it happens in schools, workplaces, or online.
